11We’re not used to seeing a win like that. The Eagles are normally the frontrunners. This game, however, was totally different. The Eagles looked nothing like the team we’re accustomed to seeing. The defense looked absolutely horrible in that first quarter. The offense wasn’t able to move the ball. As I was sitting and watching I said "Don’t worry they’re going to make adjustments and be fine. There’s no way this defense is going to play this poorly for whole game." I guess I was right.
I am a bit concerned with the lack of running game for the 4th straight game. After that game the Eagles have only ran the ball 25% of the time. That number is down from last season by 7%. McNabb is on pace to break the NFL record for pass attempts in a season. I don’t think that’s a good thing considering he is banged up enough as it is. The line has been awesome but can they keep that up all season? I think they need to use Westbrook more. When I say that I mean run him more. He’s not good between the tackles but he can get outside and make some ground. They can use Gordon in between the tackles. But, we should all know by now that Andy Reid is not into the run. So we really shouldn’t expect that change.
Even though they gave up a bunch early in the game I was still impressed by this performance. They showed that they can come back from a pretty big deficit at another team’s house. Not to mention, a team that can really run the ball. The Chiefs had never lost a game when leading by 17 or more. The defense stepped up...did you expect anything different? Let’s not forget that they totally shut down Tony Gonzalez. And they only allowed 21 yards to Priest Holmes after the first quarter. The offense looked solid again and McNabb didn’t seem to show signs of injury. We all know he’s hurt but he played well. If he keeps this up he’ll win the MVP hands down.
I have to give some props to Todd France too. Yeah he got his first field goal attempt blocked. But he didn’t let that get in his head. He came back and made some nice kicks. He could have kicked off a little better but other than that I was satisfied with his performance. They need Akers back but I think France will be okay until he gets back.
The hated Cowboys are up next. This should be a good game. I always get up for the Cowboys games. I don’t see why the Eagles shouldn’t pull this one out. They should be going into the bye week at 4-1.

A win is a win. However, I thought the Eagles would handle the Raiders much better than they did. I expected them to win by at least 10 and not have the game come down to the final drive with an injured David Akers kicking a field goal to win. But, they pulled it out.
The Birds did an awesome job of stopping the run. They held Lamont Jordan to 19 yards on 16 carries, that’s a solid effort. Overall they held the Raiders to 21 yards on 22 carries. That’s pretty dominant if you ask me. The run defense has always been a question but since Trotter came back in the lineup they have been shutting down the run game. Trotter had 10 tackles in this game but no one seemed to notice. The defense did give up 20 points though. They were put in bad field position all game though do to the lack of kicking game. Still, they didn’t do bad.
The offense was okay. McNabb was noticably hurting. He could barely get up at some times. You could notice it in the passing game too. He was way off with many of his passes. He had T.O. open in the middle and overthrew him. If he would have hit him on that play he might have taken it in for 6. He has a sports hernia so don’t expect him to get much healthier this season. He needs surgery but is not going to get that ny time soon unless it gets worse. Westbrook was awesome. He proved that he should be rewarded for what he does for this team. They need to get a deal done with him because he is awesome. He may not get 100 yards rushing every game but he usually piles up over 100 total yards, as he has done for three straight games. Then we get to Akers. He tore his hamstring and will be out for 3 to 6 weeks. He shouldn’t have been in there after the initial kickoff. What he did was great though. To come in there and kick the winning field goal with a torn hamstring shows what type of player he is.
They have a tough test coming up this week. KC is really good at home. They have a great running game too. So we’ll see just how good the Eagles run defense is. Also, McNabb is banged up and won’t be anywhere near 100%. They will be without Akers so that hurts too. I think they’ll be okay though. I think they’ll win but not by a lot.

That is the Eagles team I am used to seeing. As I said in my previous post, they will be fine. Now just as I said not to get too worried about last week, don’t get too pumped up about this last win. Let’s face it, the 49ers aren’t the best team. The Eagles did what they should have though. They kicked the crap out of a team who was nowhere near as good as them. The score could have been higher too.
McNabb looked awesome. He didn’t show any sign of being hurt at all. I still wish he would have ran the ball once or twice but throwing 5 TD’s works for me. He just looked solid. He spread the ball around which was good. T.O. had a great day too. I’m not quite sure why he didn’t do more celebrating when he scored though. It’s almost like he’s trying to make people mad by not doing anything. I really don’t care though. As long as he produces the way he can I can deal with all the other stuff.
My one concern is Akers. He has had a terrible start. He has already missed 3 field goals. Now, to make things worse, he is hurt. I think the misses are all in his head. We all know that he is one of the best kickers in the league. The problem isn’t physical, it’s mental. Hopefully he will come around.
The defense was awesome. They only allowed 3 points. They totally shut down the run with Trotter back in there. Dawkins was apprently out of his mind before the game. He is one of those guys who gets so psyched up that he doesn’t even remember doing things. Expect the D to have an awesome year.
That brings us to Oakland. This will be a tougher test for the Birds. Randy Moss is one of the best receivers in the league, and I’m not saying that because he’s on my fantasy team. They have done a good job of shutting him down in the past though. I think they will come out with the win. Look for McNabb and T.O. to have another big game.

It’s not fun to start my first post of the Eagles season talking about a loss. I almost didn’t even watch the entire game last night. I was getting very frustrated with the offense. It was not the offense I am accustomed to seeing. They looked very out of sync and for some reason didn’t take any shots down field.
The game started off before the kickoff even took place. Trotter and Mathis were both ejected from the game in which I think was a questionable decision. Mathis starting the whole thing and from the many times I saw the replay was the only one to throw a punch. The first thing that came to my mind was did the Falcons do this intentionally. They got rid of the Eagles best linebacker and forced them to start a second year guy who hadn’t taken many snaps at all with the first team. Keep this in mind too. Ike Reese plays for Atlanta, is there a chance that he may have knew what buttons to push? Just a thought.
The defense played well after the 1st quarter. They gave up no more points and forced a bunch of turnovers. So again, the defense kept them in it. The problem was the lack of offense. McNabb did not look good last night. He was not very accurate the entire night. A big problem I have is the fact that he did not run the ball once. He has the ability to create a big play with his legs. By doing that he also influences the defense. If he breaks one long run it will keep the defense guessing. He did not do that.
The lack of the running game in general hurt them. They ran the ball 13 times and passed 45. We all know the Eagles are a pass first offense but that was too one sided. The play action was ineffective because the defense wasn’t biting on the run. They absolutely cannot shy from the run like that this season. If they want McNabb to stay healthy, they won’t make him pass that many times.
Let’s not forget about the stupid penalties. Three illegal formation calls? That is something you learn to do in high school. I played in high school and the one team I was on was terrible. We never even got a penalty for that. They looked like they were playing a preseason game. That will be fixed.
Akers had bad night as well. If you add the two field goals he missed they win the game. Granted, the two were deep but he was kicking in a dome. He’s allowed to have one bad game, just as long as this doesn’t create a pattern.
Overall I would say the Eagles will make adjustments and be fine. Don’t everyone start thinking the season is over now. It’s one game, and the opening game for that matter. The Falcons had all summer to prepare for this game. Not to mention the Eagles under Andy Reid are now 2 and 5 on opening day. Other teams will not have as long to prepare for this team. Plus, Trotter will be back next week. They will get things in order and come back to be the team we’re used to seeing.

So it has been a while since I regularly posted anything on my site. I have just been really busy with work and it’s the summer so I am not in the house much. I will start posting new things very soon. I have many comments on the Eagles and the T.O. situation and the Phillies. Plus I will most likely write something about the Flyers and NHL. So check back real soon because I will be voicing my opinion real soon. And come on people...let’s hear some feedback. Everyone has to have opinions on the stuff I write. So lets hear it!!!

I just got home from seeing War Of The Worlds. That is definitely a movie you have to see in theaters. Don’t wait for it to come out on DVD. Go see it soon! There are really no breaks in the entire movie. You never get a chance to relax because there is constantly something happening. For those of you thinking it’s like Independence Day...it’s not. The idea is the same, aliens trying to exterminate mankind, but the story is totally different. I definitely recommend seeing it!

It’s been a while since I last wrote anything on here. I have been really busy lately and haven’t had time to write anything on here. There are a ton of things I wanted to write on but I just never got around to it. I’ll try to catch up on some stuff.
First off, congratulations to thr North Carolina Tar Heels! I picked them to win it all in my pool. It’s great to have one of my teams finally win. Unfortunately, they are losing most of the team to the NBA draft. So next season is going to be tough.
The Sixers season has been over for a few weeks now and already trouble has started. Apparently Chris Webber told someone he was not happy playing with Iverson. He said that Iverson dribbles the ball too much. After this came out Webber said that it was a lie. He said he never said that and that he is looking forward to next season. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how that turns out.
Even if you’re not a Philly fan you know about this one...T.O. fired his agent and signed super-agent Drew Rosenhaus. Since then nothing good has happened. I can understand if Owens wanted to ask for more money. I mean it doesn’t hurt to ask. I have a problem with him holding out though. He signed the contract so he should honor it. He thinks just because he had a good year that he should get more money. Well okay. If you want to go at it that way then how about if you have a bad year you give back a bunch of money. If you play bad then the team can redo a contract because you played poorly. Throwing McNabb under the bus was totally uncalled for too. There was absolutely no need to bring him into it. I still am a T.O. fan for what he does on the field and what he did in the Super Bowl, but I do not agree with this situation at all.
Finally, the Phillies. What can you about the Phillies. Well, the starting pitching hasn’t been too bad. Lieber is off to a great start and Myers looks like the pitcher everyone thought he would be. Lidle has been a solid number 5 in the rotation. The problem is the middle of the rotation Wolf and Padilla. If those two can get it together the starters will be pretty solid. The bullpen has been the problem this year. It seems like they just can’t get two things working at the same time. Last year the pen was good but the starters were not. This year it’s the other way around. Charlie Manuel doesn’t seem to know how to manage all that well either. For starters, Billy Wagner has batted at least 3 times this season! Closers should not be in the batters box. It’s called a double switch Charlie, learn how to do it. Another example is bringing in Rheal Cormier to face Ken Griffey Jr. If he had any clue he would have realized that Griffey was 5 for 9 against Cormier going into that at bat. It just doesn’t make sense.
Then we have Kenny Lofton being hurt for the majority of the season. Is anyone surprised? He’s not exactly young. He’s going to have injury problems all year but apparently Ed Wade thinks he will be fine. Of course, Ed Wade doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with this team. The payroll is $95 million, 5th highest in the majors, yet the team is below .500. Ed Wade needs to go.
Thome being hurt hasn’t helped matters either. He has not looked good at all this season. He struk out way too many times before he got hurt. That’s common for Thome though. When he was brought to Philadelphia the Indians didn’t think his back would hold up past 3 seasons. Could they be right? We’ll have to wait and see.
Well, that’s all for now. I’ll try to keep up with this a little more. Everyone feel free to give your opinions!
